Why We Started Bitewell

Simply: we had a need. After trying 1000 different food and nutrition apps, we couldn’t find an easy way to eat well. Most healthy eating platforms focus on cooking - which is great - but the average American only cooks 1 meal a day. We were looking for a solution that captures how we all really eat. We snack, we order out, we crave iced lattes at 2pm. Instead of changing HOW we eat, bitewell helps us make small changes to WHAT we eat.

And instead of getting overwhelmed by the ever-growing number of yogurt options (seriously, why are there so many?) we can tell you exactly which dairy-free yogurt is low carb enough for your keto diet. Cool, right?

First Food Memory

Baking cookies and angel food cakes with my grandma I always ate way to much of the dough 😇

Formative Food Moment

My step grandfather was diagnosed with celiac late in life. He would always bring a gluten free bun to restaurants and casually ask the server to “nuke” the bun and serve his burger on it. Watching my grandpa pull out his grocery bag in the middle of the restaurant made for some embarrassing moments as a kid.

Favorite Food

Chicago’s Pizza’s Sausage pizza. Yes, that's the name of the restaurant... not the city. Also looking for the best lemon garlic salmons in the country. All recommendations welcome.

Biggest Food Challenge

I was diagnosed with a pretty severe lactose intolerance when I was 12. Doesn’t sound like a huge deal, but in the 6 months prior to my diagnosis I lost a dangerous amount of weight because everything I ate made me sick.


Favorite Food

Mac N’ Cheese, which is a serious problem given the aforementioned lactose intolerance. If you find a great vegan gruyere, hit me up.

Chris’ Story

Prior to 2020, I travelled a lot. Like, 200 days out of the year a lot. As the co-founder of two beverage companies (Koia & Limitless), being on the road was a way of life. When I landed in a new city, I would spend 30 minutes trying to find something tasty and healthy to eat, give up, and order a pizza. It didn’t make sense to me that in a world where the answers to everything are at our fingertips, I could not find healthy restaurant options without CIA level intelligence. So we built a better way.

Sam’s Story

My family is riddled with food allergies. I’m lactose-intolerant, and I developed a shellfish allergy in my 20s. In the first few months following my allergy diagnosis, I went to a restaurant in NYC and had a reaction to churros. I later found out they had fried them in the same oil as their shellfish dishes. You won’t BELIEVE how often I’ve encountered that.After a diagnosis, whether allergy, intolerance or medical condition, eating changes from a joyous act to an anxiety-ridden one. I want to help change that, so we built a better way.
